Being friends and co-workers with our Disneyland expert Kurt, we always hear about how incredible the Lunar New Year celebration is between the food, experiences, and incredible character interactions. So, it’s our goal to share it with you so you can experience it too!
A highlight of the celebration is the rare character meet and greets and encounters you can experience. In this article, we will share all the details you need to know about Disneyland Lunar New Year Characters 2024.
What is Disneyland Lunar New Year?
Here at Theme Park Today, we are gearing up to celebrate the Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure, kicking off on January 23, 2024! In 2024, we are expecting a special focus on honoring the Year of the Dragon. Last year we had special appearances from Oswald and Ortensia honoring the Year of the Rabbit.
Joining in the festivities are Mulan, Mushu, Mickey, Minnie, and more. You can catch Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession, featuring beloved characters, dancers, skilled drummers, and a majestic dragon. To learn more about ALL Lunar New Year entertainment and activities check out our latest blog post.

Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession
In our opinion, the highlight of Disney’s Lunar New Year Celebration is Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession. Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession is a parade at Disney California Adventure that features Mulan, Disney characters, and a Chinese dragon puppet. The parade is about 10 minutes long and totally worth the watch!
During Mulan’s Lunar New Year Parade, guests will learn about the connection between Mulan and the Lunar New Year, see beautiful dancers, and of course, characters. Below is a list of Lunar New Year characters in this parade.

- Chinese Dragon
- Goofy
- Chip & Dale
- Oswald
- Ortensia
- Martial arts demonstrators
- Lion dancers
The Lunar New Year Parade Route runs from Hollywood Land to Paradise Gardens Park. Mulan’s parade showtimes are as follows:
- 12:45 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 6:45 p.m.
TPT from Kurt: Watch the parade in front of “Corn Dog Castle.” The parade slows down to go around the curve and you can see everything head-on.

Lunar New Year 2024 Disneyland Character Meet & Greets
Not only will you be able to watch your favorite Lunar New Year characters float by, but you will also get the chance to meet them! Specifically from January 23 through February 18, 2024, Disney California Adventure adds special meet and greets to the park in celebration of Lunar New Year!
At Paradise Gardens Park
Meet Mular & Mushu, Mickey & Minnie, and Oswald & Ortensia in their Lunar New Year best. They typically begin meeting at 10 a.m. and swap out throughout the day. You can ask a cast member when each duo will be meeting.
Redwood Creek Challenge Trail
One of the most popular meet and greets of the Lunar New Year Festival is Raya from “Raya and the Last Dragon.” You can meet Raya beginning at 2 p.m. in her beautiful meet and greet location in the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. Meet Raya from 2:00 p.m to 7:30 p.m.
New for 2024
Guests visiting during the Disneyland Lunar New Year festival will be excited to hear that there is a NEW meet-and-greet experience for 2024. From the Pixar animated film, “Turning Red”, Meilin and Ming will make their way to Disney California Adventure! Meet them next to The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure beginning at 10:30 a.m.
