Dark Universe Orlando Epic Universe

Universal Creative team and Universal Pictures blew us away with the announcement of Dark Universe. Before we dive into all the entertainment and attractions, we must know the story of this ominous land. Dark Universe blends the iconic stories of Dracula, The Wolf Man, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, and more with a new generation of monsters and characters.

“Dr. Victoria Frankenstein – the great-great-granddaughter of the infamous Henry Frankenstein who has continued his misguided experiments. As guests venture through Darkmoor – the ravaged village within Dark Universe – they’ll encounter the characters and subjects of those experiments within a first-of-its-kind theme park environment that offers family-friendly fun while also pushing the boundaries on intensity in a way that only Universal could achieve.” – Universal Orlando.

Dark Universe at Universal’s Epic Universe is anticipated to be a captivating addition for fans of Universal’s iconic Classic Monsters. This land promises to immerse guests in the eerie and mysterious world of some of cinema’s most legendary creatures, including Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula, the Wolfman, and more. Visitors will encounter everything from the experiments of Dr. Victoria Frankenstein to a shadowy landscape where monsters roam in a world of myth and mystery.

  • Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment: In the state-of-the-art dark ride, guests are invited by Dr. Victoria Frankenstein into her laboratory to witness a demonstration of her ability to control monsters – but her plans go awry when her attempts to control the most dangerous of monsters, Dracula, fails, unleashing a horde of enraged monsters The ride will combine storytelling with cutting-edge special effects and animatronics to bring the horror to life
  • Curse of the Werewolf: A Mack-spinning roller coaster that offers a thrilling chase through the cursed woods. This ride will immerse guests in the legend of the Werewolf, blending high-speed twists and turns with moments of horror and transformation. Riders will feel the rush of the hunt, whether as the pursued or the pursuer, in this adrenaline-fueled attraction.

Epic Universe Dark Universe Rides and Attractions

Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment: Get ready to venture into the chilling catacombs of Frankenstein Manor where Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s experiments have taken a monstrous turn. Now you’re the experiment! Prepare for a heart-pounding escape through the shadows, dodging the claws of the Wolf Man, the crushing grip of the Mummy, the chilling grasp of the Creature, and the seductive menace of Dracula’s Brides.

  • Height Requirement: 48″ (122 cm)
  • This attraction will feature a KUKA arm ride system, similar to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Now don’t be too alarmed (for all you fellow motion sickness friends out there), this ride will feature more physical sets and animatronics than screens.
  • Fun Fact: The Phantom of the Opera’s organ within the Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment features 14 individual flame points that shoot vertical flames over 3 feet in the air and dance in synchronicity with the organ music.

Curse of the Werewolf: This spinning family coaster is inspired by “The Wolf Man.” Guests will enter the encampment of The Guild of Mystics where they’ll be greeted by the Maleva, the guild’s all-knowing seer and leader, who warns them that they bear the mark of the werewolf. Guests then board a wagon and venture into the forest – racing to escape the werewolves before they become one themselves.

  • Height Requirement: 40” (102 cm)
  • Fun Fact: Curse of the Werewolf tears through the dark forest at 37 mph, for over 2 minutes of sheer thrill, racing through a dark foreboding shed with mysterious figures clawing ever so near.

Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience – Ever dream of being a Universal Monster? Guests of all ages can now transform into the monster of their choice with face paint and temporary tattoos at Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience.

  • We saw a preview of this pop-up in Universal Studios Florida. Now, the prices may not be the same in Epic Universe but here is an estimate of what you can expect
  • $125 for a full face of makeup and $65 for a half-face (before tax)
  • The experience takes about 45 minutes to be fully transformed.

Dark Universe Orlando Dining & Shops

All that monster hunting is going to make you work up an appetite! Good thing Dark Universe has various food and beverage offerings for monster hunters to enjoy.

  • Das Stakehaus – This fast-casual restaurant will be run by VAMPIRES. Brave souls who enter will be surrounded by artwork and artifacts detailing the history of Darkmoor’s creatures of the night, guests can enjoy a menu of kebabs, burgers, sandwiches, and more.
  • The Burning Blade Tavern –  Darkmoor’s monster hunters have transformed this old fiery mill into their favorite hangout. While enjoying a menu of burgers, wings, bratwurst, pretzels and specialty beverages, guests will hear stories of the infamous “Hounds” – boastful hunters from beyond Darkmoor – all while surrounded by an impressive display of the monster heads they consider their “trophies.” Every 20 minutes, look on top of the tavern as the windmill will be set on fire!
  • De Lacey’s Cottage – Near Frankenstein Manor sits De Lacey’s Cottage food stand, where the original Frankenstein’s Monster once received sustenance and friendship. Here, guests can find a variety of snacks and cool treats like cinnamon bread, ice cream, twisted taters, and more.
  • Pretorius’ Scientific Oddities – Brag to your friends back home about your trip to Darkmoor with merchandise and mementos.
